Letter: Accountability for sheriff’s office

By John Shirley, Vancouver

The shooting of Jenoah Donald needs to be addressed quickly and with transparency by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Here in Hazel Dell we’ve had two young Black men shot by deputies in a relatively short time, first Kevin Peterson and now Jenoah Donald. In the case of Kevin Peterson, there’s no clarity as to whether he fired at anyone, as was alleged, or had a gun in his hand, and there were witness reports contradicting the official account. In the case of Jenoah Donald, there is no explanation at all so far.

I will mention that in 2006 the FBI found that police departments around the U.S. were being infiltrated by white supremacists. The sheriff’s office should look closer at its deputies.
