I have read with interest the comments concerning the issues experienced when trying to sign-up for a COVID-19 vaccination at the fairgrounds mass vaccination site. Like many others, I have experienced the same issues: having a time slot no longer available after completion of the required information, system locking up with no apparent reason, the five-minute time limit, etc.
It’s a horrid process and not friendly to those with lesser internet skills. It would appear the process is being managed by a provider that regularly deals with normal vaccination requests like the annual flu shot, but not the volume that occurs at noon on Sunday.
Perhaps a little out-of-the-box thinking is required; consider using Ticketmaster for registration. They already have several necessary protocols in place: ability to handle thousands of simultaneous hits; ability to reserve a time slot without concern over doubling up; holding a slot while the registration is completed; and a secure site. After all, I suspect Ticketmaster’s system is not getting a lot of use right now, and if it can handle a concert at the Rose Garden with 20,000 attendees buying tickets in 15 minutes, it can handle a few thousand vaccination appointments a week.
