Letter: Support health care for all

The whole modern world, over 22 studies including the Washington Legislature’s own study, clearly show that single-payer health care systems save lives and save people billions of dollars. This comes from eliminating waste and excessive insurance profits.

So why is the Democratically controlled Legislature continuing to deny Washington residents affordable and comprehensive health care that would cover 100 percent of residents, 100 percent of the time with no worries about cancellation by employers or insurance companies; coverage you’d keep even if you lost your job, and it saves billions of dollars?

Sadly the answer is money. The health care lobby “donates” hundreds of thousands of dollars to influence those people we elect to represent us. Some of our top legislators have accepted from tens of thousands of dollars to over $100,000 from the health care industry and that includes the Health Care Committee chairs in both the Senate and House of Representatives.

We’ve all heard the horror stories of people’s lives being ruined, needless suffering and deaths due to our current system. How can we turn our backs on suffering people and favor health care industry profits?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
