Letter: Column ignores right-wing assault

Ann Donnelly’s column “Republicans face multiple challenges, opportunities” demonstrates how difficult it will be to have a meaningful “truth and reconciliation” moment in this country (The Columbian, Feb. 7). Her comment that “At least one leftist troublemaker urged the mob into the Capitol” is gratuitous at best.

Seriously? One “leftist troublemaker” but no mention of the names Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, or Three Percenters, organizations that are under FBI investigation for coordinating the assault and whose members have been arrested for the insurrection? Organizations that are self-identified as right wing and supporters of former President Trump.

President Trump’s rally was “peaceful.” The Capitol Police were “unprepared.” And one leftist urged on the mob. Amazing what one leftist can do.
