Sophomore quarterback Jarod Oldham threw for 259 yards and five touchdowns as the Hockinson Hawks opened 2A Greater St. Helens League play with a 56-0 win over R.A. Long on Saturday at Longview Memorial Stadium.

Oldham completed 19 of 25 passes and had one interception.

“Oldham, a sophomore and his first start was fantastic,” Hockinson coach Rick Steele said.

Daniel Thompson rushed 10 times for 56 yards and a touchdown, and Cody Wheeler scored two rushing touchdowns.

Makaio Juarez caught two passes — both for TDs — for 73 yards, and Kenyon Johnson also had a receiving TD with six receptions for 49 yards. Andre Northrop had seven catches for 88 yards.

“We knew we had this in us, but like everyone else, you have to wonder with little practice,” Steele said. “We were hoping we’d play this well. And we did. Our defense looked really good.”
