If folks wonder why the U.S. leads the world in the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths, they need look no further than President Trump and the leadership he has provided in combating the pandemic. On New Year’s Eve in the middle of the worst pandemic to hit the country in a century, his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach sponsored a party for 500 or so people. Friends, family members, supporters and others crammed into the ballroom. There was no social distancing. Few wore masks. Ignoring the advice of medical authorities local and national, they danced and partied into the night.

On Jan. 20 a new era of leadership will be inaugurated in the U.S., and not a day too soon.
