Firefighters responded Saturday afternoon to Shanahan’s Pub & Grill in downtown Vancouver to extinguish a fire on the roof of the restaurant, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

On its Facebook page, Shanahan’s said someone intentionally set fire to the roof after climbing onto a neighboring business’s roof. No one was hurt, and the damage can be fixed.

Vancouver Fire Department crews were dispatched at 2:06 p.m. to 209 W. McLoughlin Blvd., for a report of a commercial structure fire.

The first arriving crew reported that no flames were showing, but shortly thereafter, a neighbor in a nearby apartment building told dispatchers that the fire was on the building’s roof.

Firefighters climbed onto the roof and found a 12-by-12-foot dark spot with flames appearing to come from one of the edges of the spot, possibly a vent. However, crews doused the spot, cut the roof open and determined that the fire was confined to the exterior of the building, according to radio traffic.

A Vancouver fire marshal was requested to respond to the scene.
