Letter: Use peaceful words

By Carolyn Heinz, Ridgefield

There are words that are misused in the media: first “protesters.” That word should be restricted to nonviolent activities. If there is violence we have other words: rioters, saboteurs, mobsters, thugs, insurgents, etc.

“Law and order” would be more enlightened as “safety and justice.”

“Police force” could be “police services.”

“Armed forces” should always be “armed services.”

Our words make a difference in our thinking. Maybe we can use peaceful words and slowly become a more peaceful society.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
