ABERDEEN — Overstock.com will cease operations at its call center in the Satsop Business Park.
“The community of Grays Harbor and our employees in the region have been and are essential to Overstock’s achievements and growth,” read a company statement Thursday. “Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we have experienced success with work-from-home opportunities, so much so that we will continue to employ and seek out talented individuals to join our team and work from home.”
The company didn’t say how employment levels would be affected. According to past news coverage, there were at least 150 jobs at one point.
The Satsop Business Park is owned by the Port of Grays Harbor, which leases space to the business.
“We are aware of Overstock’s announcement to its Satsop-based employees regarding the future status of their location at the park,” said Port Public Affairs Manager Kayla Dunlap. “At this time, there have been no changes to the lease with the Port, which would require (Port of Grays Harbor) Commission action.”
The Port Commission approved a lease with the large Salt Lake City-based online retailer in December 2016 to establish a customer service call center. The opening of that call center drew attention from across the region, including Gov. Jay Inslee, who spoke at its opening in May 2017.
Just three months after the call center opened, the Port Commission approved a lease amendment to expand its footprint in the FlexTech building to encompass all 43,000 square feet.
