Letter: Grateful for Herrera Beutler

I am so sorry to see that many of our neighbors here in Clark County cannot recognize Donald Trump’s lie about the election being stolen from him. After about 60 lawsuits challenging the election were filed all over the country, many in courts with Trump-appointed judges, no actual proof could be offered and cases were thrown out. After three recounts of ballots in Georgia, Trump still lost.

The states verified their elections and electoral votes were sent to confirm the election of Joe Biden. But the lie went on, culminating with the continuing challenge to receiving the electoral votes by many Republicans in the Congress, and in a riot in the U.S. Capitol.

I was so proud and happy to hear Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, stand up in the House of Representatives and say she was supporting the truth that the election was fair, and that the electoral votes of the states should be received and approved. She said that she would not act out of fear but on behalf of truth. But now she is being harassed and vilified by many of her constituents for voting her conscience.

I am grateful that she did so, and I hope she remains safe in these troubled days ahead.
