Local roundup: Three local players win at Oregon Amateur

Union High to host girls basketball camp

Three players with local ties won matches in the first round of men’s match play Wednesday at the Oregon Amateur golf championship at Bandon Dunes.

Taylor Klopp of Vancouver beat Daniel Campbell of Duvall 1 up. Camas High School graduate Daniel Snoey beat Connor Rumpf of Tualatin, Ore., in the 20th hole. And Hockinson High graduate Jarred Gomez beat Jack Pennington of Eugene, Ore., 2 & 1.

Five other local players lost on Wednesday — Bradley Karns, Jonathan Romano, Graham Moody and Matt Hartley, all from Vancouver, as well as Eli Huntington from Camas. Melissa Joyal of Washougal lost in the women’s bracket.

Union boosters host girls basketball camp

Union Girls Basketball Booster Club is hosting a youth basketball camp for girls ages 9-15 on July 12-15 at Union High School.

The camp will run 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Campers will receive instruction from current Union coaches with help from current Union players. Cost is $85. Walk-ups are welcome. For more information, email weatherspoon5@comcast.net.
