Letter: Partisan committee not credible

A bipartisan, expert committee to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol attack would be valuable. I consider this investigation essential and a bulwark against undemocratic action.

A partisan committee of vote-seeking members of Congress where Nancy Pelosi can veto membership won’t meet this need. Such a committee will lack credibility. We need a nondivisive approach to prevent erosion of institutions and bring citizens together. A partisan committee will be quickly dismissed by opposing media.

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, was right to vote for the bipartisan commission, and reject the Pelosi committee.
