Letter: Why not subsidize children?

Re: “Why subsidize so many children?” by Michael Seitzinger (Our Readers’ Views, July 18): Why not subsidize children? If Mr. Seitzinger’s concern is that the adults now receiving the child tax credits already make lots of money, then I wonder if he has the same concerns when we subsidize or bail out corporations and billionaires. If not, then why worry about the amount of money a parent made prior to receiving the child tax credit?

Children are our future. Even though I don’t have children myself, I’m very glad to see this new government subsidy for children. If it means families can feel less stress about affording rents, mortgages, car payments, utilities and buying enough food to feed growing children, I am in favor of it.
