Letter: Protect wolves; they are needed

In the Northwest, wolves are a major factor in keeping our wildlife, and the ecosystem we live around and enjoy. Predators such as wolves are necessary for the environment as they are the keystone species maintaining the diversity of their ecosystem. Wolves enhance prey populations by culling weak and sick animals from the gene pool, leaving only the strongest of animals to reproduce.

What a wonderful world it would be if wildlife lived without being hunted, chased away by development, never poisoned or snared by ranchers. Cars would not crush them; fickle legislation wouldn’t protect them one year and endanger them the next. We can only hope with this administration, changes can occur.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
