Letter: Clean up city, junkyard

I can’t agree more with the letter written by Rick Brown, “Address squalor in the region” (Our Readers’ Views, June 9).

It seems our city has lost pride in the appearance of the surrounding areas. They are littered with trash, garbage on the highways and city streets. Why the deterioration?

In addition, I would like to mention the lack of enforcement in some homes and yards. Case in point: We live in the Cascade Park area in a section of nice homes. However, there is a home that appears to be a dump in their front, back and sides of their yard. Why is this allowed to exist?

The neighborhood association, over many years, has complained to Code Enforcement, the city manager and the mayor to no avail.

My question is why have an agency called “Code Enforcement” that does not enforce the code? If you drive by the area you will be shocked at what you see.

I have lived in many cities and have never witnessed anything like this to exist. It can also be a fire hazard and health issue. It is so unfair to homeowners that pay high taxes to have to condone living with a junkyard in their area. We are not zoned for that.

Why can’t somebody do something?
