Letter: Mill Plain Vine not a good idea

I can’t believe that C-Tran’s Shawn Donaghy and The Columbian think that the Vine on Mill Plain is a good idea. Several years ago, C-Tran started removing every other or every two bus stops. They said they were within federal guidelines of how far apart the bus stops should be. They did not take into consideration how far people had to walk to catch the bus. They eliminated several routes also. The Vine stops on Fourth Plain are few and far between. It wasn’t too bad at first because they had the 39 bus also traveling on parts of Fourth Plain that had stops by Bi-Mart and several of the apartment complexes.

I went to one of the meetings to protest the Vine being placed on Mill Plain. One of the C-Tran staff said the Vine was a good thing and the businesses would like it because it would stop in front of them. I replied that the Mill Plain bus already stops at a lot of the businesses on Mill Plain. The Vine will only stop at the major intersections. There are several businesses that aren’t close to the major intersections that people who really need C-Tran won’t be able to go to or have to walk miles to get to.
