Prep highlights: Tenino knocks off King’s Way girls soccer in sudden death shootout

Double overtime and five rounds of a shootout weren’t enough.

It took a sudden-death shootout for Tenino to get past King’s Way Christian in the 1A district playoffs on Wednesday in Vancouver.

Sophia Rubano scored in the first half for King’s Way, and Tenino drew even in the second half.

Rubano, Ally Smith, and Sara Thudium converted in the shootout.

In sudden death, both teams made their first shots, King’s Way missed its second and Tenino converted for the win.

Tenino moves on the district title game Saturday against Montesano, which knocked off La Center 6-4.

Stars of the day

Owen Huntington, Camas boys golf, shot a 69 in the opening round of the 4A district tournament at Tri-Mountain for an 8-shot lead.

Dane Huddleston, Woodland boys golf, took the first-round lead by 3 shots at the 2A district tournament at Mint Valley with a 69.

Cameron Lantagne, Union boys cross country, led the way in the dual against Battle Ground by winning on the 5,000-meter course with a time of 17:12.

Drew Norman, Kelso boys cross country, won by more than minute in the dual with Mountain View, covering the 2.9-mile course in 15:58.5.

Charlotte Wilson, Union girls cross country, won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 19:52 in the dual with Battle Ground.

Sophia Cheslock, Kelso girls cross country, won the dual meet against Mountain View with a time of 21:33.6 on the 2.9-mile course.

Landon Gunter, Prairie boys cross country, won the 3.05-mile race with a time of 17:01 against Evergreen.

Lauren Sautter, Prairie girls cross country, edged her teammate by 4 seconds to win the 3.05-mile race in 21:32 against Evergreen.

Zenora Salano, Evergreen volleyball, had 18 kills and 10 digs in a 3-2 victory over Heritage.

Ella Schoene, Mountain View volleyball, had five kills, six blocks, 10 digs and an ace as the Thunder beat Prairie 3-0.
