Letter: Vaccine priority is outrageous

I am 62 years old and have two underlying comorbidities. Thanks to The Columbian, I was able to register with the FindYourPhaseWA that they advertised in last Sunday’s paper. However, I was shocked to find that the earliest I will be notified for vaccination is mid-April, yet a young schoolteacher who deals with little kids all day can get the vaccination ahead of me. This is outrageous!

We have known for some time that we have a limited supply of vaccine and the vaccinations would have to be prioritized. This should be done on the probability of “dying” from catching the disease, not simply the chance of catching it. Our state’s priority should be to stop as many potential deaths as possible with the limited supply we have. The decision to now let teachers jump the vaccination line is outrageous, and folks who pander to their union should not be in a position to make life-and-death decisions in our state.
