For the first time, Heritage High School slowpitch softball finished the season undefeated at 9-0. The Heritage players do not have much but what they do have is heart. Unlike Union and Camas with their fancy turf fields, Heritage has to practice on a field with giant mud puddles and an outfield that has been destroyed by the locals treating the field as a dog park.
Also unlike the teams it plays, Heritage does not have fancy uniforms as they are only provided an old jersey that is at least three seasons old or more. The Heritage players can clearly see that they do not have what the other schools have but that does not stop the scrappy group of players. If anything, this gives them a chip on their shoulder.
Heritage went out and beat Union High, the defending district champions and 4A state runners-up with a team stacked full of elite travel-level players, on their own turf. If that was not enough, Heritage went out and 10-runned Camas. Heritage put up nearly 20 runs on Skyview and shut out Evergreen High with zero runs.
