Letter: County council should listen

On Feb. 24, the Clark County Council held a workshop to discuss future planning with aggregate and construction industry representatives. The shortage of aggregate has been growing exponentially. However, the county failed to develop a comprehensive plan relative to housing and businesses needed to support this growth.

During this workshop, the representatives voiced their concerns with Clark County’s lack of short- and long-term planning. It could have been a productive meeting if the county had proposed a plan outlining the details to support the aggregate issues.

As Clark County residents, we would like to share collective concerns and request open public forums before executing significant decisions that impact our communities. Specifically, the lack of transparency and communication between the county and the community, the staff within their internal departments, community participation in long-term planning to avoid land-use conflicts, council responsibility to Clark County residents, and the need for collaborative discussions, not just with the individuals with special interests.

In summary, the county needs to perform due diligence to research, provide substantiating data for planning purposes, and be accountable to make informed decisions to avoid negative fallout and potential lawsuits.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
