Letter: Rethink gun laws

My heart goes out to the victims’ families of the latest shooting in Colorado. As far as that goes, any family that has to endure the loss of a loved one from any senseless act such as this.

Let’s forget the reports from newspaper and television articles that the alleged shooter was not U.S.-born. Let’s put aside the alleged shooter reportedly had delusional episodes and mental issues.

What I don’t understand is how a person can walk into a firearms store and allegedly purchase a semi-automatic weapon and walk out with it?

Please don’t misunderstand me. I believe I as well as anyone has the right to keep and bear arms. I am a law-abiding citizen having been a homeowner for 44 years. Raised three great boys with the help of my wife of 47 years and am the owner of a concealed weapons permit. So why do I have to wait over six weeks to actually walk out of the store with my gun?
