The team that will design a new, all-inclusive park at the Marshall Community Center assembled at the site Tuesday to finalize their plans.

The group includes staff from Harper’s Playground, Inc. – a Portland-based nonprofit that helps communities build park and play structures for people of all abilities – as well as LSW Architects, AKS Engineering and Forestry, LLC and Pence Construction.

When completed, the 14-acre site will include fully accessible play areas and equipment that encourages collaborative play among people with different abilities.

The existing play structure is 22 years old.

The project is expected to total $2.5 million, $700,000 of which has already been secured. Harper’s Playground will hold its annual gala at the park on Sept. 25 to raise money for the remodel.

The crew from Pence Construction is scheduled to break ground in spring of 2022, with a grand opening expected the following fall.

“We support Harper’s Playground’s mission to create inviting playgrounds for all people,” Paul Schulz, Principal at Pence Construction, said in a media release Tuesday.
