Letter: Remember Kraft’s misdeeds

Prior to the January insurrection, taking part in “The Big Lie,” Republicans across the country called for the election results not to be certified, and instead overturned by state legislatures, allowing for candidate Donald Trump to try to steal the election. Among these Republicans who acted against our democracy was our own Vicki Kraft, representative for the 17th Legislative District here in Vancouver.

Many Republicans who took part in The Big Lie have given up and tried to obscure what they did. Some newspapers and media sites in the country are continuing to hold them accountable, repeatedly mentioning their part in the insurrection whenever they write a story about a guilty official. I ask the readers of The Columbian: what are we doing to hold Vicki Kraft accountable for her calls to overturn the election results? Are we going to remember what she did?

I believe that it is in the best interest of our democracy that we never forget how so many of our elected officials acted against the democratic institutions that put them in their places, Vicki Kraft included. Any time The Columbian might write a story including her, I say they should mention this misdeed.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
