A newspaper delivery driver is in the hospital after being shot in Northeast Portland’s Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood early Friday.

Portland police officers responded to a shooting call in the 4400 block of Northeast Shaver Street at 4:30 a.m., where they found an adult male with a serious gunshot injury.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said. Police said the victim and a female passenger were driving slowly down the street delivering newspapers when a suspect in another vehicle fired at them through the windshield of the unmarked delivery van.

The suspect left the scene, according to police.

The Oregonian/OregonLive has learned that the victim was an independent contractor delivering a variety of newspapers, including The Oregonian.

The Enhanced Community Safety Team is asking anyone who witnessed this shooting or who may have surveillance video of the neighborhood to contact the agency, referencing case number 21-129557. Tips can also be sent to Crime Stoppers of Oregon.
