Prep Basketball Roundup: Freshman scores 32, leads Battle Ground boys to win

Spencer lifts Tigers past Evergreen for third straight win

Freshman Tait Spencer scored 32 points to lead the Battle Ground boys basketball team to a 57-53 win over Evergreen on Thursday.

The guard opened his scoring with two 3-pointers and never slowed down. He scored 16 of Battle Ground’s 26 points in the second half.

Tre Spencer added 10 points as the Tigers (6-4) won their third straight 4A/3A Greater St. Helens League game. Prior to that streak, Battle Ground had lost three straight after Gonzaga-bound post Kaden Perry suffered a back injury that likely ended his season.

Jaden Stanley scored 20 points and Adonis Johnson added 10 for Evergreen (3-6).

Boys basketball

UNION 84, SKYVIEW 46 — Kaden Horn scored 26 points and hit six of his team’s 12 3-pointers as the Titans remained undefeated in the 4A/3A GSHL.

Horn hit three 3-pointers in Union’s 26-point third quarter.

Isaiiah Vongnath scored 15 points and Bryson Metz added 12 for Union (10-0).

The Titans also played stout defense, forcing 17 turnovers.

Mehkai Brooks scored 10 points to lead Skyview (4-3).

CASTLE ROCK 44, STEVENSON 36 — Trevor Rogen scored 21 points including two 3-pointers that put the Rockets up six after the game was tied at 31-31 with 41/2 minutes to play.

Adam Partridge added 13 points for Castle Rock.

Girls basketball

CAMAS 57, SKYVIEW 32 — Addison Harris had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Faith Bergstrom had 13 points and nine rebounds as the Papermakers improved to 9-0.

Skyview made a run in the fourth quarter to get as close as 11 points, but Camas’ Parker Mairs hit back-to- back 3 pointers to put it out of reach.

EVERGREEN 28, MOUNTAIN VIEW 27 — Lexi Echols made the go-ahead basket for Evergreen with 25 second to play and the Plainsmen picked up their first victory.

Coarleigh Speer led Evergreen in scoring with eight points.

Lauren Coop was the top scorer for Mountain View with nine points.

WASHOUGAL 70, FORT VANCOUVER 13 — Chloe Johnson and Savea Mansfield each scored 15 points as the Panthers improved to 2-0 in the 2A GSHL.

Kailey Gonzalez scored nine points to lead Fort.

KING’S WAY 58, CASTLE ROCK 37 — Laurel Quinn scored 23 points, making six 3-pointers, to lead the Knights to a Trico League road win.

Abby Cummins added 15 points and 10 rebounds for King’s Way (2-0). Lisa Hartwich had nine points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.

Leading 28-21 at halftime, the Knights took charge by outscoring the Rockets 15-3 in the third quarter.

Brooke Wirkkala scored 17 points and Payton Kessler added 13 for Castle Rock (1-5).
