Nominees for Week 12 prep athlete of the week

Voting continues through 7 p.m. Thursday

Here are the nominees for the Week 12 high school athlete of the week, for results from May 17-22.

Voting will continue until 7 p.m. Thursday, with results announced in Friday’s edition of The Columbian.

Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again in the same sports season.

To avoid vote manipulation, voting is restricted by IP address, one vote per IP address. That means people voting while connected to a public WIFI access may be unable to vote. We suggest voting be done by private internet access or through your cellular provider.

This week, we are also offering a fans the opportunity to cast a second vote by using a ballot link right here.

BRENDAN BOWYER, SKYVIEW BASEBALL: Bowyer struck 11 and gave up no earned runs over six innings pitched in a 4-2 win over Battle Ground

SAM EMPEY, UNION BOYS SWIMMING: Empey won the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly in the 13-team Kelso Meet and won the 50 free and 100 fly in the seven-team meet at the YMCA.

IOANNIS FASSILIS, WASHOUGAL BOYS BASKETBALL: Fassilis had games of 28 points, 30 points and 38 points in three league games for the Panthers.

CADY GRUENBERG, BATTLE GROUND SOFTBALL: Gruenberg pitched eight shutout innings with 13 strikeouts and went 5 for 9 with a double, home run and six RBI last week.

ROSE UGBINADA, FORT VANCOUVER BOWLING: Ugbinada averaged 198 over nine games last week, including five games of 201 or better.
