FELIDA — Fire District 6 recently won the Washington Fire Commissioners Association Management Excellence Award. It’s given to the district that judges deem performed best in operations, logistics, finances, public outreach and more. The judges are not in the fire service, rather they are professionals from other public and private organizations. Fire District 6 competes in the A class, which is the category of largest districts in Washington.

“It’s nice to be acknowledged by outside sources that we’re doing the right thing,” District 6 Commissioner, Brad Lothspeich said. “We haven’t entered for ten years, so this is a nice reward.”

The judges also look at how districts spend taxpayers’ money. Scoring well in this category is especially satisfying, considering how important it is to use financial resources wisely.

“2020 provided a year of great challenges and demands, but more importantly a year of optimistic growth, planning and leadership that set the course of District 6 on a positive path for the future,” Fire Chief Kristan Maurer said.
