The Clark County Commission on Aging hosts the annual Silver Citizen Award program to recognize older adults who go above and beyond in service of their communities. The recipient of the 2021 Silver Citizen Award will be Carol Starbuck.

Starbuck is a 77-year-old resident of Camas, where she serves with the Trauma Intervention Program Northwest. As a program volunteer, Starbuck may be asked — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — to provide immediate, practical and emotional support to residents in the midst of a crisis, usually when a death has occurred.

Starbuck has responded to more than 241 scenes of tragedy and served 902 clients in the Clark County area. She quietly but confidently supports her fellow community members on the worst days of their lives.

The Home Builders Association of Metro Portland recently announced that Pacific Lifestyle Homes has been awarded the association’s excellence award as top home builder in one of its major categories. The award was given as part of the association’s annual Builder Excellence Awards, which are given to honor builder, remodeler and design members of the association.

Pacific Lifestyle Homes’ “Grand Oaks” neighborhood model home was selected as an award winner. The Grand Oaks is located at 4611 S.E. Rosewood St. in Hillsboro, Ore. The home was built with a charming yet efficient, 2,205-square-foot, craftsman-style design. It features a magnificent master suite with a spectacular oversized curb-less mud-set walk-in shower.

The excellence awards are split into multiple categories based on sales price. The Grand Oaks home won the award for the best single-family detached home in the $500,000-$750,000 price category.

“Pacific Lifestyle Homes is a strong, smart and conscientious local home builder and an active and engaged member of the HBA. We’re proud to see them recognized for their work to provide quality housing in our communities,” said Dave Nielsen, chief executive officer of the Home Builders Association of Metro Portland.

“We are honored to have been selected for this award by the HBA. Our team has worked hard to stay on the cutting edge in design concepts as well as innovation,” said Kevin Wann, owner and president of Pacific Lifestyle Homes.

A community advocate, Hannon-Nein is a member of the local nonprofit Community Military Appreciation Committee, most recently working on the 9/11 remembrance ceremony hosted on the Vancouver Waterfront. A graduate of Prairie High School, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in communications at Portland State University, interned with U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler and received a Public Engagement Certificate from Pepperdine University. She is pursuing a Master’s Degree in information technology and data administration from Central Washington University.
