A man crossing the road in a wheelchair was taken to a local hospital after being struck by a vehicle Thursday evening in Hazel Dell.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded around 4:45 p.m. to the 4600 block of Northeast 99th Street for the crash, according to emergency dispatch records.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Alex Schoening said the man was crossing in an unmarked crosswalk at 99th Street and 45th Place when a westbound Toyota Prius struck him. He was thrown about 60 feet but was conscious and alert when first responders arrived. He appeared to suffer injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, Schoening said.

The driver cooperated with investigators, and no criminal charges are expected at this time, Schoening said.

Low lighting and wet conditions likely contributed to the crash, he said, but it remains under investigation.

Northeast 99th Street between 43rd and 50th avenues was closed for a couple hours for the crash investigation.
