Letter: Republicans right on voting bill

By Tom Tangen, VANCOUVER

Many thanks should go to the Republican senators who stopped the Freedom to Vote Act from coming to a vote. The bill basically removes control of our local elections from us, and gives it to unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.

If we have problems with how our elections are run, we can vote for or against the county auditor, who supervises our county’s elections, and for or against our secretary of state, who supervises our state elections.

The Democrats’ philosophy of having a only a few people control important segments in our lives comes perfectly into focus with this bill.

We all vote by mail here, but this bill makes Election Day a federal holiday, which would be totally pointless here.

But the “one size fits all” attitude of the people who want to take away our control of how we vote, reveals itself in many of the provisions of this bill.

Thank you Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, for voting to allow us, the people, to have the freedom to control our local elections.
