Letter: Be thoughtful about distancing

The COVID-19 virus has some positive sides for people like me who are germophobic and have personal-space issues.

I feel safe at food service venues when the workers wear face masks and gloves. I hope that the health department will implement these practices long term.

I also like the social-distance rules about being 6 feet away from each other. C-Tran used to have the bus seats blocked off so the riders were 6 feet apart from each other. You didn’t have someone sitting directly behind you breathing down your neck.

Of course, in the stores that had the 6-foot reminder circles, people would get mad at me when I pointed to them.

The only places I feel safe going to right now are Chuck’s Produce and the downtown library. They both make sure people are wearing their face masks properly, which means covering both the nose and mouth. Other stores have signs up that say face masks are required, but they do not enforce the state law.

Please, people: Be kind and smart. We’ve been told what steps are needed to combat the virus. If everyone pitches in, then the virus will hopefully go away and not mutate into something more deadly than the delta variant.
