Letter: Upsides of a pandemic

The freedoms our society provides us do have limits. My freedom of speech does not mean I can yell fire in a crowded theater, because such an action will probably cause physical harm to others. In addition, if I were to use it to damage another’s reputation, I risk being properly sued in a court of law.

My freedom granted to me by the Second Amendment does not mean that I do not need a permit to carry a concealed weapon. However, there is another concealed weapon that is as least as deadly as a gun: a virus that has killed over a quarter of a million fellow Americans and damaged untold thousands of others.

We do have vaccines that have proved to protect us from the virus, but those who by choice refuse to be vaccinated should understand that your concealed weapon makes you a potential accessory to murder.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
