On the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 10, my wife and I were walking east on Van Mall Drive when I tripped on a lifted sidewalk slab, jamming my knee into the femur and breaking it near my hip.
As I was lying there in terrible pain, two men approached. The younger one said he was an off-duty EMT, the other a construction worker. The EMT quickly realized I needed an ambulance and called for one. The other man found ice packs and applied them to my knee. They both helped load me onto the gurney. I had surgery two days later. Still in rehab. There is no way I can properly thank them, so I will try to pay it forward at every opportunity. The ambulance personal were professional and appreciated. Thanks to all of you.
