Non-league football: Skyview 35, Prairie 12

In what was billed as a redemption week for both the Prairie Falcons and the Skyview Storm coming off losses, the Storm’s perseverance and tenacity would prevail in a 35-12 win at District Stadium on Friday in Battle Ground.

For half of the game, it would be a defensive standoff from both teams, shutting each other out in the 1st and 3rd quarters

But the second quarter would transition into an offensive shootout with both teams putting up two scores each. Skyview took a 14-12 lead into halftime.

But Skyview pulled away late, scoring three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

“Once we got acclimated to the aggressive defensive front they were throwing at us, we were able to gather ourselves and start moving the ball and throwing it fast,” Skyview quarterback Niko Arriola said. “After we executed that first touchdown in the 4th quarter, everyone exploded and kept us going.”

Arriola would end with 264 passing yards, 136 of which going to senior Teddy Beaver.

Skyview’s defense would also step up when it mattered, stopping Prairie’s offense 5 of 6 times on facing fourth down.

For the Falcons, Alex Ford would be the man of the night, ending with 156 yards and their two scores.

The Falcons would struggle with penalties throughout the night in critical situations, such as when facing 3rd and short or defensively allowing Skyview to convert and move the chains 3 times in third down situations.

“I think we stepped up when it mattered, but we gotta get better and execute better across the board going into next week and just do what we do like we know we can.” said Beaver.
