Letter: Be aware of pressure on teens

Oct. 10 is National Mental Health Day. I’d like to take this opportunity to address mental health challenges of teenagers.

This pandemic has taken a large toll on us. As a high school junior, I have heard from many of my peers that the transition from online to in-person classes is very hard. I think it is important for the school administrations, teachers and parents to understand that.

Some teachers are assigning large amounts of work to students without considering that students are just back on campus and need to make adjustments. I know that some of my peers feel extremely overwhelmed by the heavy academic workload and frequent tests and quizzes, not to mention the social anxiety that being in-person brings.

I hope that my letter can bring some awareness to the pressure teenagers feel, and how we as a community can support and watch out for each other.
