Kudos to Ann Donnelly for her incisive column on Vancouver Lake (“Vancouver Lake merits public-private partnership,” The Columbian, Oct. 3). She brought a historical and cultural aspect to the lake that has been missing in previous reporting about the lake’s many problems.
It’s important that our community not give up on our wonderful lake anymore than the citizens of Camas allow their lakes to degenerate into algae-invested, dangerous water bodies, which was also reported in the Oct. 3 edition of The Columbian.
We have the potential resources and ability to make our precious water bodies habitable to animals and humans. Why would we not devote public and private resources to this effort? It’s time for local government to step up to this challenge, not ignore it.
