Letter: Get healthy, vaccinated

We are now witnessing our nation’s movement to a self-imposed medical Darwinism, as so many people refuse the COVID-19 vaccine. As a theory, Darwinism arose in the 19th century, offering among other ideas that “survival of the fittest” determined biology. In the 20th century, those who offered a newer variation, economic Darwinism, were excoriated for implying that some societies and some countries would always fall behind unless they reduced corruption, and adopted capitalism, democracy, and the rule of law.

Now in the 21st century, we see medical Darwinism ravaging our nation, as so many unvaccinated citizens strive for a triumph of dogma over practicality. Millions of vaccinated people are walking around healthy and economically productive, whereas many unvaccinated people are consuming tax dollars, as they slowly and painfully die in crowded hospitals.

As a nation, we will need every scientist, engineer, marketer, logistician, and skilled technician to be healthy, vaccinated and productive, to produce the goods and services necessary to redress our staggering trade deficit with China. China’s citizens are getting vaccinated. China’s goal is to supplant the United States as the world’s No. 1 strategic power, economically, scientifically, and militarily. As we focus on our nation’s survival, we must all get healthy, vaccinated and productive, or cede the future to China.
