The Woodland Beavers rode two big plays to pick up its second win in as many weeks with a victory at Beaver Stadium.

The first big play was on the opening kickoff as Dalton Beassie scooped up a bouncing ball at the one-yard line and ran 99 yards for the touchdown.

The second big play came early in the second half. Sophomore quarterback Brett Martynowicz found Mark Morales for a 67-yard touchdown pass. Martynowicz would add the two-point conversion as well for the Beavers (2-4 in 2A GSHL play, 2-6 overall).

It was a frustrating first half for Hudson’s Bay (0-5, 0-6). Four times the Eagle offense drove the ball inside the Woodland 20 yard line but came away empty each trip. At the end of the first half Hudson’s Bay had the ball at the Woodland one-yard line, but the Woodland defense held.

The Beavers put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter with a 90-yard drive. Freshman Elijan Anderson, who helped fill in at running back for the injured Daymond Gressett, finished the drive with a five-yard touchdown run. Anderson had 61 yards rushing and recovered two fumbles for the Beavers, who play host to Mark Morris next Friday.

Dylan Damos, filling in at quarterback for the injured Dean Castillo, rushed and passed for 51 yards each for the Eagles. Hudson’s Bay tangles with Hockinson next Friday at the Kiggins Bowl.
