Vancouver is set to receive $107,942 in federal funding to pay for a crime prevention and domestic violence task force.

The U.S. Department of Justice is distributing $1.4 million in grants to Western Washington cities for crime prevention, community outreach and officer safety equipment. The funding supports initiatives to prevent crime and assist programs based on local needs as defined by the police.

“From innovative communication apps, to de-escalation and implicit bias training and less lethal equipment, our cities have identified ways these grant funds will make our communities safer,” said U.S. Attorney Nicholas Brown in a written statement.

Vancouver is one of 12 cities to receive money from the Byrne Grant program. The largest grants are directed toward Seattle and Tacoma to reduce violence and improve community violence intervention programs. Other grantees are allocating their funding for more training and equipment.
