Johnson leads Mountain View to 38-7 win over Evergreen

Mitch Johnson passed for 212 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 69 yards and two touchdowns, helping Mountain View clinched the 3A Greater St. Helens League title outright with a 38-7 win over rival Evergreen on Thursday night.

Mountain View (7-2, 4-0 3A GSHL) captured its fifth league title in the last six seasons. The Thunder will await a matchup committee’s decision on Sunday to find out who they will play in the 3A state preliminary round next week.

Johnson threw touchdown passes to Aiden Nicholson and Kyle Chen. Both of his touchdowns runs came in the second half as the Thunder pulled away after leading 17-7 at halftime.

Evergreen’s defense came up with two fumble recoveries to stay close early. Kyle Norton rushed for a 86 yards and his 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter got the Plainsmen within 14-7.

Chen finished with eight catches for 94 yards for Mountain View. Jonathan Landry started at quarterback again for Evergreen, passing for 87 yards and rushing for 44 yards.
