Skyview football got what it wanted from its regular-season finale on Friday at Kiggins Bowl.

The Storm earned a win, though that was never in doubt. Skyview cruised past an overmatched opponent, beating Adrienne Nelson, a new school in Happy Valley, Ore., 58-0.

The Storm also paid tribute to 18 seniors before finishing the regular season 7-2.

But, more importantly, Skyview used Friday as a tuneup for a Week 10 playoff game. The Storm clinched the 4A Greater St. Helen’s League second postseason berth by virtue of Camas beating Union on Friday.

“We just wanted to get better as a unit and exceed our expectation for today,” Skyview quarterback Niko Arriola said.

Skyview put the game away early, leading 30-0 after one quarter and 44-0 at halftime.

And the Storm didn’t even need their offense to put up points. Skyview’s defense and special teams accounted for three touchdowns and a safety.

Gabe Martin had a 9-yard fumble return to go along with a 20-yard touchdown run. Gavin Packer had an 18-yard interception return.

Most impressive, Jalen Salavea returned a partially-blocked punt 40 yards, breaking seven tackles on the way to the end zone.

Those three scoring plays happened on consecutive drives, meaning Skyview scored 21 straight points without its offense taking the field.

“It’s boring for me,” Arriola said with a laugh. “They keep scoring, but I want to get in too. I love what they’re doing and how they’re playing.”
