An impressive Week 1 win over rival Woodland enabled Kalama to become an unanimous pick for No. 1 in Class 2B in the Associated Press media prep football rankings released Wednedsay.
Ridgefield also joined Hockinson in the Class 2A top 10.
Led by five touchdown passes and two touchdown runs by Jackson Esary, Kalama rolled to a 57-20 win over 2A Woodland on Friday.
In last week’s preseason poll, Kalama shared the top spot in Class 2B with Onalaska, with Chinooks receiving two first-place votes and Onalaska getting three. Napavine also received two first-place votes finishing just behind the other two team at No. 3.
But this week, Kalama garnered all eight first-place votes and 80 points. Napavine was No. 2 with 66 points and Onalaska came in at No. 3 with 56 points. Fork, Kalama’s opponent this weekend, was ranked No. 4.
Ridgefield, after a 45-0 win over 4A Heritage, moved into the 2A top 10 at No. 8. Hockinson held firm at No. 5 after losing a narrow game on the road to No. 2 Lynden.
La Center, after a 42-10 win over Cascade Christian, jumped two spots to No. 7 in the Class 1A rankings.
Union fell five spots this week to No. 7 in the 4A rankings after falling to O’Dea, the top-ranked team at 3A. Skyview debuted this week at No. 10 after a 27-0 win over rival Columbia River.
