Letter: Litter problem is ballooning

Tagging on to the recent Columbian articles regarding the negative impacts of Mylar balloons, please consider the prevailing winds in our area. They travel primarily from west to east. This means that any loose balloon will head directly toward the Cascade Mountains. Anyone who has spent much time in our pristine forests has undoubtedly come across these pieces of shiny trash hanging from the tree limbs and brush.

Many times, I have come out of the woods with my backpack loaded with well wishes from someone’s birthday party, wedding, etc.

I like to think most people wouldn’t willingly dump pieces of aluminum garbage out in the wilderness. But all too often, that is exactly what is happening. If you must buy this floating trash, please be diligent about keeping it securely grounded and out of our forests.
