Cheers for the new recycling opportunities in and around Vancouver. Thanks to Ridwell, the Washington-based nonprofit that began serving our area in June, our garage is well rid of piles of notoriously hard-to-recycle stuff. The best part is Ridwell clearly details how they responsibly dispose of the various items. They do not simply load them onto a barge heading to China.
Now, Waste Connections is joining the effort. The gargantuan, nationwide corporation woke up and took notice when a young upstart came to town and started picking up what they’d been leaving on the curb. Good move, Waste Connection!
Jeers, though, to Waste Connection’s lack of transparency about how and where they will dispose of our trash. And isn’t it strange that Waste Connection’s snazzy metal bins and their cute bags are exact copies of those Ridwell distributed weeks ago?
May both initiatives succeed. But I’m sticking with Ridwell. It’s not just a business for them.
