Letter: Bring heel to damaging forces

Thank you to Tim Hagan and Roland Minder and this paper for sharing their views. I totally agree with the term “American Taliban” and the description of those “patriotic citizens” at Skyview.

Could we just re-label the dominant political parties as Progressive and Reactionary? It appears to me that the two prevailing evils are human insatiable thirst for wealth and unbridled religious arrogance toward the “others.” Our species expresses an infinite cleverness to manipulate authority and power over the less inclined, informed or incapable.

I believe that our democracy and our planet’s future would be well served to bring to heel these two forces. Religious doctrine must not have any influence on our governing path. The wealthy need to be taxed into reality. They are the great benefactors of our system of economics and governance but they are, of necessity, insatiable. Therefore, as a whole, wealth must be regulated down to reality (not impoverished or destroyed).

I just don’t think that immense wealth should control the narratives (political, social, religious or economic) of this country. Current evidence demonstrates that profitability overrules constructive information and dialogue. Also, does any rational person feel safe in this country with over 20 million assault weapons in the hands and control of the “citizens” that we see in our various communities?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
