Tobias Merriweather returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and Jaydon Jones set up Union’s second score with an 87-yard kickoff return, leading the Titans to a 42-19 win over Chiawana in Pasco.
Merriweather stepped in front of a Chiawana pass along the sideline and raced in for an early 7-0 lead for Union.
After Chiawana drove for a field goal, Jones brought the ensuing kickoff back to the Chiawana 3, setting up Marques Cantu’s 3-yard touchdown run for a 14-3 lead. Cantu’s second touchdown run put Union up 21-3 early in the second quarter.
The Titans defense came up with a big defensive stop late in the second quarter, allowing the Titans to take a 21-13 lead into halftime.
Union took the second-half kickoff and drove 70 yards capped by Jones’ 3-yard touchdown to go up 28-13.
Jones added two second-half interceptions to help the Titans extend their lead.
Merriweather also had seven catches for 121 yards and another score. Cantu rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns and caught five passes for 55 yards and another touchdown.
