Kid Cudi: Lil Nas X ‘what we need now’

Kid Cudi is big on Lil Nas X.

The Grammy-winning artist penned a heartfelt tribute to the 22-year-old music superstar, who was recently named one of the 100 most influential people of 2021 by Time.

“Lil Nas X is a new twist on some of the themes I was riding on when I first started out: being true to yourself and not giving a f—k what anyone says,” Cudi, 37, wrote.

“What he’s doing is what we need right now. To have a gay man in hip-hop doing his thing, crushing records — that is huge for us and for Black excellence. The way he’s unafraid to make people uncomfortable is so rock ‘n’ roll,” the “Day ‘n’ Nite” singer added. “He’s a true rock star.”

Earlier this month, Nas X revealed that his debut album “Montero” would feature an impressive list of collaborators, including Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion.

After he was called out on Twitter for the lack of Black male artists, the rapper wrote that “maybe a lot of them just don’t wanna work with me.”

That response “made me sad,” Cudi wrote in Time.

“There’s a homophobic cloud over hip-hop, and he’s going to break that s—t down. We have to stand with him. I’m going to do whatever I have to do to let him know — you have my support,” he added.
