Letter: U.N. can’t be trusted

Antonio Guterres, U.N. secretary-general, citing the report “Our Common Agenda,” warns against a future of perpetual crisis and the world facing a “pivotal moment.” The enormous stress of global life-threatening emergencies such as unchecked inequality, pandemic, climate breakdown, cyber and nuclear war, social injustice and the collapse of biodiversity has put mankind at strategic risk.

Of course, the only possible solution to this mega-crisis is a more effective multilateralism to strengthen global governance led by … the U.N.

Never mind that the U.N. Human Rights Council currently contains such stellar global citizens as Cuba, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation. What a perfect example of misguided, elitist arrogance to think that ordinary people have any confidence in an organization that has not demonstratively determined right from wrong and good from evil. Time may be an issue, however, as their schedule is mostly filled with resolutions against Israel.
