Fishing report for lower Columbia River mainstem and tributaries: April 2

The Lower Columbia River mainstem from Buoy 10 upstream to Corbett on Saturday, April 2 tallied 1,115 salmonid boats and 115 Washington bank rods for this week’s count.

Fishery reports

MAINSTEM COLUMBIA RIVER

SALMON/STEELHEAD

Sec 1 (Bonneville) — 304 bank anglers kept 27 Chinook, one jack and released 13 Chinook; 14 boats/30 rods kept six Chinook and released one Chinook.

Sec 2 (Camas/Washougal) — 49 boats/84 rods kept eight Chinook and released five Chinook.

Sec 3 (Interstate 5 area) — 57 boats/109 rods kept 10 Chinook.

Sec 4 (Vancouver) — 99 bank anglers kept three Chinook; 135 boats/268 rods kept 26 Chinook and released two Chinook.

Sec 5 (Woodland) — 37 bank anglers kept one Chinook; 103 boats/244 rods kept 35 Chinook and released five Chinook.

Sec 6 (Kalama) — 75 bank anglers released one Chinook; 155 boats/403 rods kept 61 Chinook and released 10 Chinook.

Sec 7 (Cowlitz) — 46 boats/160 rods kept 33 Chinook and released one Chinook.

Sec 8 (Longview) — 74 bank anglers kept one Chinook and one steelhead; 248 boats/560 rods kept 83 Chinook, two jacks, one steelhead and released 10 Chinook.

Sec 9 (Cathlamet) — Nine bank anglers had no catch; 13 boats/32 rods kept nine Chinook.

Sec 10 (Cathlamet) — One bank angler had no catch; 160 boats/369 rods kept 106 Chinook, one jack and released six Chinook.

COLUMBIA RIVER TRIBUTARIES

SALMON/STEELHEAD

Cowlitz River from Interstate 5 Bridge downstream — Three bank rods kept one steelhead and released one steelhead.

Cowlitz River above the I-5 Bridge — 88 bank rods kept 22 steelhead; six boats/19 rods kept 18 steelhead.

Buoy 10 upstream to Beacon Rock — Through April 6, open to boat and bank angling. Daily limit six, up to two adults may be retained of which up to one may be an adult Chinook. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook. Release wild steelhead.

Beacon Rock upstream to Bonneville Dam deadline — Through April 6, open to bank angling for hand-cast lines only. Daily limit six, up to two adults may be retained of which up to one may be an adult Chinook. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook. Release wild steelhead.

Bonneville Dam upstream to Tower Island power lines — Through May 5, open to bank angling for hand-cast lines only. Daily limit six, up to two adults may be retained of which up to one may be an adult Chinook. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook. Release wild steelhead.

Tower Island power lines upstream to Hwy. 730 at the Washington/Oregon border — Through May 5, open to boat and bank angling. Daily limit six, up to two adults may be retained of which up to one may be an adult Chinook. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook. Release wild steelhead.

COLUMBIA RIVER TRIBUTARIES

SALMON/STEELHEAD

Cowlitz River — Through April 30, from the mouth to the posted markers below the Barrier Dam, daily limit is six, with up to two adults may be retained of which one may be an adult Chinook. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook and hatchery coho. Effective May 1, salmon closed.

Kalama River — Immediately until further notice, from the mouth to 1,000 feet below the fishway at Kalama Falls hatchery, daily salmon limit is six fish, of which only one may be an adult. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook and hatchery coho.

Salmon Creek — Effective through May 27, from the mouth to the 182nd Avenue Bridge, Hatchery steelhead daily limit is three. Selective Gear Rules in effect, except use of barbed hooks is allowed.

Wind River — Effective until further notice, from the mouth to 800 yards downstream of Carson National Fish Hatchery, the salmon and hatchery steelhead daily limit is six. Up to one adult salmon and one hatchery steelhead or up to two hatchery steelhead may be retained. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook.

Drano Lake — Until further notice, in the waters downstream of markers on the point of land downstream and across from Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery and upstream of the Highway 14 bridge the salmon and hatchery steelhead daily limit is two, of which up to one may be an adult Chinook. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook.

Klickitat River — From the mouth to Fisher Hill Bridge, effective through May 27, the salmon and hatchery steelhead daily limit is two, of which up to one may be an adult salmon. Release wild Chinook. Open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays only.
