Members of the Clark-Vancouver Regional Drug Task Force rescued a puppy from the trunk of a car that the officers were searching during a drug investigation.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said that last week, investigators served a search warrant on the vehicle and found suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine and Xanax inside. They also found a puppy, which the sheriff’s office said had been zip-tied into a cooler bag in the trunk.

The suspect surrendered the puppy to animal control at the scene. The sheriff’s office did not name the suspect.

Investigators referred charges of animal cruelty and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute to the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review, the sheriff’s office stated.
